Tinnitus the never-ending humming, buzzing, whistling or ringing that won’t go away.
If you do not have tinnitus or have never suffered from it in the past then you may still find this post helpful.
Hopefully, you will learn how to protect your hearing to reduce the chances of getting tinnitus. Likewise, if you have only just become aware of it then please continue reading. The future may seem dark but I can assure you there is light at the end of the tunnel.
The early days of Tinnitus
I have been suffering from tinnitus for the last 8 years. Although it doesn’t affect me now it did in the beginning
To begin with I barely even noticed it until I tried going to sleep. I would lay in bed staring into space feeling more and more anxious about the noise in my ears.
Although I am fine with it now I was depressed. I just wished it would go away so I could get a nice quiet nights sleep. But I have now come to accept, it will probably be with me for the rest of my life.
Some people who get tinnitus seem to cope better than others, they don’t get depressed and it doesn’t affect them like it does people like me and you. These types of sufferers are few and far between. Although not everyone gets depressed some lose sleep or struggle in noisy environments.
There is no cure for tinnitus! This statement is not what you want to hear from a doctor or an ENT specialist. But accepting it early on can have a major impact on how quickly you adapt. You will often hear “you will have to learn to live with it”. These words seem empty and meaningless at first but you do. Learning how though is a challenge in of itself.
Being resilient doesn’t mean try to fight it and hope it disappears, in some cases, it will go away over time. Embrace it and learn to forget about it.
learn about tinnitus habituation
Humans adapt quickly to new conditions and changes in habitat. Becoming accustomed to new environments is something we have been doing since the beginning of our existence. Its how we’ve survived so long and its how we can fight tinnitus too.
Habituation is complex but the basic principle is to get used to something.
Here are a list of things you can do.
Sleep with a radio on low volume to mask your tinnitus.
Protect your ears in noisy environments such as your workplace or a nightclub.
Seek medical advice if you have not already, some cases can be more than just damaged hearing.
Worrying about it will get you nowhere, seek medical advice and connect with people who have suffered from tinnitus for a while.
Talk to someone, don’t bottle up your feelings and pretend everything is ok. There are many people who get depressed about their hearing and there are many online groups and forums that can help.
If you are a family member or a friend of someone who has tinnitus, do not ignore them, it is a serious condition and severely affects the most vulnerable. Listen to them and help them get through, having someone to talk to about their problems will make them feel better as it did for me.

Although COVID -19 has thrown a spanner in the works, 2020 could still be a prosperous year.
Improving your life in 2020 may seem impossible due to the current global pandemic, but there is no reason why you cannot set goals to help you in the future. Self-improvement doesn’t have to be expensive and can be done completely free although there are advantages to following step by step programs and reading well versed personal development books.
Self-improvement goals 2020
1. Create better habits
Whether it be going to bed early to get a good nights sleep or eating healthier, the benefits of creating better habits speak for themselves. You could try managing your money better, something I’m sure many will have had no choice but to do anyway in light of this years problems, but learning to manage money better could ease some financial strain and create a less stressful environment for you and your family.
Contrary to getting a good nights sleep getting up early can have a huge impact on your productivity and your mental health, and let’s not forget that some of the richest high-performance people in the world get up early and can achieve more between the hours of 6am and 11am than most people achieve in a full day, something to bear in mind if you’re wanting to start a business or become successful in life.
Aim to wake up an hour earlier than usual for a few days or weeks and try to manage your finances better, maybe the next time you see that shiny new watch or that new 60inch plasma ask yourself, do you really need it, I know its easy to say but impulse buying will not help any financial situation and will make managing your money a whole lot harder.

2. Read more
Reading more is one of the more obvious yet less talked about goals, but is essential to improve some parts of your life. It can become more of a hobby than a chore and does wonders for your mental health and enlightenment.
Keep it simple and easy, try to read at least one book a month in the genre you like the most.
Reading can also allow for some you time, sit back relax make a cup of tea and read.
3. Spend a few minutes a day reflecting on your achievements
You may not feel like you have achieved much today or this week so far, but being aware of your achievements no matter how big or small can be an advantage.
Did you learn something new this week, if so how have you benefited and how has it improved your life or understanding of the world? Have you been 1% more successful today than you were yesterday?
Reflecting on your achievements can help you in many ways such as understanding your flaws and areas of your life where you may need to improve, give you a better understanding of your relationships, find your weaknesses and even just becoming aware of issues that you maybe never considered to be harming or problematic.
Don’t doubt yourself, I guarantee no matter how much you want to disagree you have had many achievements this week.
Spend your time wisely, learning something new can be anything from learning how to make candles to knitting and everything in between, set goals on what you want to have learned by the end of the week or month, do you have a website? if so try learning about digital marketing. Do you have a business that needs advertising? learn copywriting.
The list goes on, it doesn’t matter what you learn just be sure whatever it is you choose to pursue that it adds value to your life in some way, or can add value to someone else’s life. Use what you learn to enrich your personality and share your new-found knowledge with others
So go ahead learn something new and develop not only skills but your personality also. You’d be surprised how much can be gained from new pursuits, self-improvement can be as simple as gaining new-found knowledge.
Use what you learn to educate others, be a teacher all throughout your life and inspire others to become better versions of themselves.
5. Start a new diet
There are all kinds of new diets out there and finding one that’s going to work for you can be challenging, but in truth it doesn’t matter what diet you choose, sticking to it is what makes the difference.
There’s the Keto diet the paleo diet the low carb diet so on and so on, but the most important thing to remember is to find a diet you can stick to and be consistent with, its no good picking a diet that doesn’t suit your lifestyle, then again a lifestyle change is in order to feel the real benefits of a new diet.
Don’t think it’s hard to follow goals or set them, someone has already done the hard work for you, and yes I know some of these Step-by-step programs come with a price but following a guide or program that’s already there for you can give you a major advantage and motivate you to continue.

It’s a common problem for people not to have a clear course of action in their lives. They might have some big, nebulous goal in their head, but they’re not breaking it down enough to make it doable.
They have this tendency to talk themselves out of trying because “it can’t be done.” They see their dreams as this mountain of a task they can’t even begin to take on.
To them, it’s just so massive and intimidating that it’s not even worth putting any energy into it. They content themselves with just thinking about the what-ifs instead of spending time on the how-tos.
But if they made the first step to break down those goals into smaller, manageable chunks…
…they’ll find that working on their dreams isn’t as hard as they thought.
At the heart of it, your goals are nothing more than a bunch of smaller tasks that you need to do every day, every week, and every month.
And most of them are pretty boring when you think about it. But put together, they add up to something huge.
So write down your goals, and keep it somewhere you can go through every day. Start with the major ones first, then break them down into smaller sub-goals underneath each of those.
Remember, unless you face the reality of making your dreams happen…
…you’ll be no closer to your goals than when you first thought of them.
#2: You Lack Vision
Aside from a lot of folks not having a clear set of goals, they don’t even have a sense of purpose to begin with. They’re drifting aimlessly in life, not really sure which direction they should take.
In the back of their minds, they’re thinking, “Me? Accomplish that big, scary thing and make a ton of money?”
“I’m fine making $25,000 a year, thanks. I don’t want to disappoint myself if I end up not doing it.”
But like I said, that’s just the fear talking. If you want to lose that feeling, you need to replace it with a positive one instead – like excitement for instance.
And to do that, why not get EXCITED about your dream scenario?
Visualization is helpful, but you need to paint a crystal-clear picture to get the FULL effect.
The first step is to think about what you want to happen, like putting up an Internet café or a yoga studio.
Ask yourself, “Why is this goal important to me, anyway? How do my values tie into all of this?”
Get to the core of it: Maybe you want to create more jobs in your community or teach people how to clear their minds and relax.
And what would it be like when you’ve accomplished your goals? Who would be the people around you, and what would they say?
How would it feel making those dreams happen?
Get as specific as you can and add as many details as you want. Once you’ve painted this vivid image in your head, you’re already bridging the gap between thought and reality.
By setting your mental goalposts, it can give you the drive to take ACTION and start manifesting those desires into the real world.
#3: You Don’t Believe
Most people make the mistake of believing in something AFTER the fact. But the most successful people in the world do it the other way around.
As you’ve learned from the last point, you need to get excited about a vision before you can start working on it.
And the reason for doing this is to plant the BELIEF that it can happen in the first place.
Without it, you can’t create the space for that desired reality to exist.
So as counterintuitive as it sounds, you’ll have to believe in something before it can manifest itself in the real world.
But it’s not just a matter of telling yourself, “Ok, I believe I can earn enough from my side hustle to quit my full-time job.” The Universe won’t hear weak statements like that.
Instead, try using affirmations to empower yourself. These are declarations you can say out loud (or in your mind) to reinforce the reality you want.
When you repeat it enough times, you’ll cement those things you want to be in your subconscious.
Then you can start working on those goals you wrote down with a newfound sense of rock-solid confidence.
However, it’s crucial that you phrase these affirmations correctly. Pick a bunch of goals you want to accomplish, and act as if it’s happening in the PRESENT.
That way, you can start moving in that direction and make it happen.
For example, it’s not really useful to say, “One day, I’ll become rich and be able to provide for my family.”
Instead, you can rephrase that into a more powerful statement such as this:
“I am wealthy, and my life is filled with abundance every day. I use my wealth to provide for my family.”
By acting like it’s happening now, you’re giving yourself something to aim for. As I said, belief comes before reality.
To get started, try spending 5-10 minutes on this every day (e.g., first thing in the morning or before bedtime work best). Soon enough, you’ll feel a change in how you go about your day.
#4: You Don’t Have a Plan B
As much as we’d like to live in a perfect world, the best plans can take a wrong turn.
Sometimes, the outcome you had in mind doesn’t align with reality. In cases like those, you need to know how to respond.
People often blame others or hit the panic button as a knee-jerk reaction. The better approach is to take control of at least some part of the situation, so it doesn’t completely go down the drain.
I’ve found that you’ll end up avoiding a disaster altogether with this one step.
It helps to have a contingency in place on the off-chance that something goes off the rails. You can plan ahead for potential problems, so you know what to do when the moment calls for it.
More importantly, you need to find the opportunity to grow even in the most challenging situations.
Ask yourself, “What part of this problem can I use to my advantage? How can I build on this situation, so I don’t fall flat on my face?”
The more you embrace adversity, the better you can turn it on itself and come out on top.
As the Marines say, “Improvise, adapt and overcome.”
#5: You Lack Discipline
Jocko Willink, a former Navy SEAL and author, talks a great deal about this core value.
He says, “(Self-discipline) will take care of you like nothing else can… it’ll put you on that path to strength, health, intelligence and happiness. And most importantly, it’ll put you on that path to freedom.”
To cultivate discipline, it starts by making the decision to stay FOCUSED on your end goals. That’s going to take some sacrifices, such as staying up late, giving up unhealthy habits and resisting the desire to procrastinate.
The moment you get distracted from your goals, you’ll erode your foundation of self-discipline.
Studies show that people who can map out a clear a daily routine are more likely to stick to it. And in effect, that makes them more productive than others.
Like what you did with your goals, write down a schedule you can work with, and do your best to follow it.
FACT: Humans are wired to crave structure and routine.
It’s an anchor for our minds, so we don’t drift off into a limbo of wasted potential and mediocrity.
And when you get down to it, the reasons you’re not making it happen all boil down to one thing.
It’s the voice inside you that says, “Why are you trying to change? Don’t you know how terrifying the great unknown is? Just stay here where it’s safe…”
I’ve dealt with that voice ALL my life, but I’ve found a way to shut it down so it doesn’t get a vote.
Success! You're on the list.

I have to learn something new every once in a while to keep myself sane
Im not the only person that feels this way! Am I, surely not, surely everyone likes learning.
Is it just me or does life get boring without the lust for knowledge, It’s not like I was fond of school but as I get deeper into my 20’s, I feel as though learning is my number one pass time. Whether it be scientific videos on youtube or blog posts about digital marketing, I just don’t seem to be able to stop soaking up and processing new information.
My favourite learning platform (Online learning)
What’s your favourite learning platform?
Mine is Udemy, over the last few years I have been using Udemy to learn new skills such as, web development and digital marketing to name a few. There are thousands of courses to choose from and most of them give you skills you can transfer to a new job, or that business idea you’ve had for a few years. They also award you with a 100% completion certificate, which may come in handy on your next job interview.
That being said Youtube is also at the top of my list, although the platform itself is saturated with content in every niche, subject and topic, it can prove difficult finding genuinely useful content. On a whole it is an excellent resource for learning materials and information, but be intelligent with whom you invest your time in.
Books are a key component of learning, if not one of the best ways to learn.
I have read books about the special forces, astrophysics, business and so on. It doesn’t matter what genre you are interested in, all nonfiction books share the same outcome, upon finishing a book you become enlightened.
I recently purchased a book about copywriting, The Copywriters Handbook, which is a step by step guide to copywriting. The fourth edition is thoroughly revised and includes essential information on copywriting in the digital age, something I have a growing interest in.
If you want to learn copywriting or gain more experience in the field I would recommend giving this book a try, its full of expert advice and tips. Click on the image for more information and buying options.
So why does all this make you happier, especially during COVID-19
Let’s just think, if you are currently at home due to lockdown, you may have more time on your hands, you could use this time wisely and invest in educating yourself in new industries or new hobbies.
Whatever your interest this time at home may provide you with the opportunity to gain knowledge in areas you were previously interested in, but maybe didn’t have the spare time to invest into it.
Take my parents for example who have started a new hobby, that soon turned into a business making candles, they have spent weeks learning about the different processes involved and gain valuable experience through trial and error, see my post Creating a website for my parents and what I’ve learned.
How could this make you happier?
Sometimes the pressures of everyday life and work can become exhausting and weigh you down, by pursuing new ventures and ideas you can maintain a fresh outlook on life and maybe even get one step closer to fulfilling your dreams and ambitions, that and being engaged in something new can take your attention away from stressful situations.
Trust me working for family can be difficult at times
Ever wondered what it is like to be a web designer, the creativity, the zest of one’s true calling in life… Yeah
So I recently published a website for my parents new business venture. Having set up my own website/blog I found it both easy and frustrating at the same time, I had my own ideas and my parents had theirs, however, in the end, it turned out fine. Working for family members can be challenging at times, but I suppose if you can work for your family you can work for anyone.
There was more to it than I realised
I had to buy a photo booth to take professional Photo’s of their products. (I already had a good camera)
I knew we needed plenty of images to make the site look engaging and interesting, which is why I honestly believe the photo booth I purchased from Amazon was a necessity and one of the best products I’ve invested in this year so far, I’m sure it’ll have its uses in years to come. Here is a link to the booth I purchased https://amzn.to/3dOQYQz
We also felt that we needed a nice background image, or header image to captivate our audience hence the reason for the landscape image at the top of the home page. If you’re not from Yorkshire or even England, the Yorkshire Wolds is a beautiful area of England, with rolling hills and valleys in every direction. It just so happens we live on the Yorkshire Wolds which should explain the business name and branding.
What have I learned
Here are a few things I have learned on this new creative venture.
Patience is key to a successful design
Listening to what other people want can have its upsides (and downsides)
How to take semi-professional photos
How to utilise WordPress blocks
I like being creative (something I normally struggle with)
